Volunteer Trip

Why Guatemala?

We’re flying volunteers out to Guatemala to address the issue of extreme poverty. 59.3% of Guatemala's population live in poverty, and 23.4% live in extreme poverty, it means they make less than $1.25 a day. Because majority of the population living in rural villages are engaged in unpaid agricultural works, they cannot support their families. Also, most of the children, rather than receiving proper education, stay home and work to support their families. They do not have opportunities to grow out of poverty. Our G.I.F.T. Chickens is based in Guatemala and you can join us to build a chicken coop that allows families to generate steady income by selling the eggs in the market and personally meet the families youre helping.

G.I.F.T. Chickens Transforms Lives

After extensive research on our beneficiary families and with agreement to enroll their children in school, G.I.F.T Chickens will provide them with one chicken house, 30 chickens, and 6 months worth of chicken feed and water. Good Neighbors Guatemala staff will vaccinate the chickens and also provide trainings for the families on raising the chickens and selling the eggs. Each family will be closely monitored by Good Neighbors Guatemala staff regularly

So I Can Actually Help Make This Happen in Guatemala?

Yes! Sign up to volunteer abroad with us and well take you to Guatemala so you can see firsthand how G.I.F.T. Chickens gives families an opportunity to break the vicious cycle of poverty. This unique opportunity puts you directly in the field, building from the ground up for deserving families while connecting you with the people and culture of Guatemala.

Your trip will also include visiting our other community development project sites and tourist activities. Its an incredible, life-changing experience for you and for the families you’re helping!

Note: Volunteer trips can also be customized to incorporate volunteers’ special interests (e.g. faith-based volunteer trips or skill-based trips for practicing professionals who want to contribute to communities).
